Oliver Goldsmith’s evergreen comedy deservedly lives on in the theatre, now it has a new life on television and, later this year, DVD. This is not a multi camera archive performance, but a fully fledged, high definition film, shot on location at Wiveton Hall in North Norfolk.
Filmed in tandem with “She Stoops” was Simon Butteriss’s documentary: “A Gooseberry Fool – Oliver Goldsmith Stoops to Conquer”. Those who have enjoyed Simon’s previous film for Capriol, “A Salaried Wit” will know that Simon has a unique presentational style. In this new film he explores Oliver Goldsmith’s life and work as Simon and Goldsmith, as he and his alter ego follow the main unit around the set.
We will be posting more information on ”She Stoops” and “A Gooseberry Fool” over the next few weeks, but please follow the link to the excellent Sky Arts micro site, which has all sorts of interesting stuff on it, including the first fifteen minutes of the film, (in low resolution, not glorious hi-def).
