Composer-writer-filmmaker Tony Britten founded Capriol Films in 2004, as an enterprise investment scheme with additional development funding from Screen east, the local screen agency. The company produces high quality films for international television, generally, although not exclusively with a strong musical basis. Wherever possible production is based in Norfolk and utilises the skilled talent pool that exists in the area. All programmes are shot in high definition, the first slate of three films produced through 2005 led the way for adoption of this exciting new technology in the region.
Capriol Films also has a close relationship with Tony Britten’s internationally acclaimed opera company, Music Theatre London. MTL has performed in London venues such as The Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barbican, Lyric Hammersmith, Arts theatre, The Drill Hall and the Donmar Warehouse. Its productions have toured nationwide and in Germany, Holland, Belgium as well as to the Vienna festival. MTL has been hailed as "A European success story" (The Times) and its first co-production with Capriol Films was the recently completed "Falstaff", which played in London’s Drill Hall before shooting on location in North Norfolk.
Capriol Films aims to make work that is accessible without compromising on quality or aspiration. In tandem with our drama and documentary projects the success of the opera productions – performed in modern English by highly skilled actor/singers is evinced by our "Boheme", which delighted audiences in the UK on Five and Artsworld and continues to sell worldwide through our distribution deal with Poorhouse International.
